How to Wear Head-to-Toe Bold Florals in Winter #iwillwearwhatilike

Wearing Florals in Winter: Wide leg orange floral jumpsuit from Mango with black accessories | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 40 fashion and style

It's my first outfit post of 2018! Let's start the way I mean to go on, with something seriously bold and colourful (nothing new where I'm concerned)... but florals? In winter? Whoever heard of such a thing?!!

In case you're wondering, this jumpsuit is not from a new spring collection, it's AW17 (and on sale)! And what's stopping us wearing head-to-toe bold florals in winter, I say?

I've had this Mango floral jumpsuit for a few months now, and some of you may have seen that I first wore it to the Thirty Plus Blogger Awards where I wore it with a black and white camisole and the same shoes. However, this time I wore it on Boxing Day because it was comfy (great for burgeoning food babies). I usually end up wearing trousers the day after Christmas because we always dress up for Christmas Day in our family (I wore a stunning red midi dress but I was glad to squeeze myself out of it at the end of the day) and after that I need comfort but still want to be dressed up to some extent.

By the 27th I'm back in my pyjamas - in my case it was my new giraffe onesie Keith got me for Christmas 😍 #yearmade

WE PASSED BY A JEWELLERY BOUTIQUE... NEEDLESS TO SAY THESE BOLD ORANGE AND BLACK BEAUTIES WERE SCREAMING MY NAME FROM THE WINDOW DISPLAY.

This time I went with a wide black belt over the matching tie belt, it kinda adds an extra bit of oomph to the whole thing (and ties in the shoes of course).

Though it's really the earrings that have stolen the show here!

SHOP THE LOOK:

I bought these earrings (plus another statement pair) when I went to Amsterdam in October - I've worn both pairs a few times but this is the first time they've appeared on the blog. I was there with my wonderful friend Greetje (No Fear of Fashion) and we passed by a jewellery boutique... needless to say these bold orange and black beauties were screaming my name from the window display. Greetje was very restrained when we went in - despite her trying on several necklaces - but I ended up with two fabulous pairs of statement earrings.

My excuse was that Keith always buys me a piece of jewellery whenever we go on holiday somewhere (although I was in Amsterdam for work I did have a free leisure day with Greetje), so I texted Keith to say this was what he was buying me. Yep, any excuse, I know...!

The UK Blog Awards: A big thank you

Finally - if you voted for me to reach the 2018 UK Blog Awards Fashion & Beauty shortlist then I have to say a massive thank you!! I'm so happy to say I've been shortlisted and I couldn't be more thankful to everyone that voted. Of course I'm not expecting to win AT ALL seeing as I won in 2017, but it was important to me to represent 40+ bloggers in this tough category. It's a great start to the year :)

So, onto the link up: do add your outfits below - and if you've added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

The #iwillwearwhatilike link up with Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist's list of "inappropriate" items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you're wearing whatever you damn well like!

  10. Ah now my no-spend commitment is in jeopardy, that jumpsuit combines two of my favourite things, orange and beautiful flowers, and just the sight of it has lifted my spirits on an otherwise not very perky day. You are always a shot of sunshine, a real happy dresser! Have a great year x

  19. I agree that florals can work in winter as well as summer but weren't you FREEZING??! I couldn't wear that in the water because I'm always so cold lol. Even living in Portugal I'm freezing (probably because the houses aren't really built for cold) and here where we're holidaying in the States its OMG freezing old temperatures. For the past few days it's been –19C!!! Shocking, I know! Hence my current wardrobe consisting entirely of thermals, lots of layers, puffer jacket, scarves, hats and gloves!!
But I must add, you look stunning! Although I'd have liked to have seen you in your new giraffe onesie ;)
    HAPPY NEW YEAR CATHERINE!

    1. Hehe we spend Boxing Day indoors, not outdoors, Suzy!!!! 😜

Seriously - when you're cooking in a centrally-heated house with loads of people you get very, very warm... we kept the windows open for much of the day because we were all so damn hot! It's only cold when you go outside to take pictures. But thank you, I'm glad you liked the outfit! x

(I put me in the giraffe onesie on my InstaStories!! 🤣)

This incredibly pretty combo is proof once again that it's totally possible to be both chic AND comfortable at the same time...which is exactly what you want for a holiday celebration!! And you - I mean Keith, teehee! - couldn't have done better with those statement-making Christmas earrings!! 😉 (P.S. Congratulations on being shortlisted for the 2018 UK Blog Awards; you go girl!!) 23. Yay! I love your bright, cheery floral! January can be so dismal, what a great way to add some "sunshine". Also, You just made me feel better about my floral print choice. I know. I shouldn't need validation but it is nice sometimes. Anyway, the earrings are fantastic and I think it was brilliant of you to text your hubby to "get" them for you. ;) Thank you for consistent, inspiring content and congrats on being short listed!
