An Edwardian flavour

Sweater: F+F, Shirt: Husband's, Trousers: Oasis at ASOS, Shoes: Rocha John Rocha, Watch: Red Herring, Saturn necklace: Gift (Hannah Zakari - they ship internationally for free!), Bracelets: My christening bracelet/ASOS, Nails: No.7 Milan

The beautiful Saturn necklace was a gift from my parents for Christmas... perfect as the planet Saturn is my favourite thing we've seen in our telescope since we bought it last year :)

So I've done it again: I've put together an outfit that, when I look at the photos, makes me think of a specific style/decade/influence/celebrity. I really don't mean to do it, and maybe you wouldn't agree with me each time, but that's okay! ;)

Today it's the turn of the 1910s... for me it's about the combination of a puffy leg-of-mutton sleeve (Mum: what are they called again?), a shirt collar and my hair piled up on my head. Oh and a long full silhouette created by wearing wide-leg trousers (like their long straight skirts). Think Titanic day-wear (like this sort of thing), if you will.

I promise I don't do this intentionally, but it has been rather timely: last week I participated in a few of the Winter Edition Challenges at Freckles in April [great link ups!] - so due to the 1910s thing I've got going on I thought I'd try and take up the challenges directly and do as many as I can. So the first this week is Decades/Regions: what's the betting I'm the only 1910s link up...? ;)

Have a great week everyone!

I got the blues, spotty socks and shoes

Parka: La Redoute similar, Denim shirt: Topshop, Waistcoat (just seen): La Redoute, Jeans: Miss Sixty, Heels: ASOS, Socks: Topshop, Hat: Forever 21, Necklace: gift, Watches: both gifts (old), Watchstrap bracelets: ASOS, Silver bracelet: F+F, Rings: Unknown (old), Nails: Nails Inc Black Taxi, Lips: Revlon Coral

Double denim again! Love it!!

I'm not usually one to have the same hairstyle several days in a row but I've also been loving my (fake) plait hairband and centre parting recently. However, the wind last weekend was unforgiving, as you can see by picture five...! These are not shown in the order that they were taken, they're kinda backwards. We started with the hat, which kept getting blown away by the wind so I just had to hold it; eventually the sun came out... and we finally got the money shot (first picture)!

My sister bought me the silver bobble necklace for Christmas and I love it; she said she thought it was very 'me' (she knows me too well). And while I love to get dressed up in the week for going to work, I do like dressing down just as much at the weekend - though I don't put any less effort into my outfit even if it's double denim. I still like to think about accessories, jewellery and what patterned socks to wear.

Dressing up is just meant to be fun, isn't it?!!

Happy weekend folks!

My inner Carrie Bradshaw

Somehow, I don't know how, I ended up getting a Carrie Bradshaw vibe when looking at these photos. Another case of looking in the mirror at an outfit and thinking (in this case) yes - you're looking all retro secretary, girl! ...then something else altogether comes to mind when viewing it on screen.

Looking at the big wavy hair and full skirt in the camera viewfinder I immediately remarked ooh, it's a bit Carrie B isn't it (luckily Mr. Summers is aware of the phenomenon we know as SATC)... and then wondered how I had the audacity to compare myself. Believe me, I'm no CB when it comes to style - those are lofty heights I can only dream of, but therein lies our inspiration, and what would we do without that?!

So I'm showing off two things today: firstly, another pair of geek chic glasses - I LOVE these (new) retro style babies from eBay! I only actually need glasses for reading but like them as an extra accessory to an outfit, so I'm starting to get a little collection of clear lens glasses going. And secondly - my nail tips manicure that I was inspired to do by Crashing Red... the lovely Maria tipped her nails in different neon colours but I stuck to orange. I can see myself doing this more in the future.

Finally for all you lovely folks who've commented on my hair recently - I've been sporting the same plaited hair for most of the last few posts - it's very easy to do if you buy a false plait hairband... that's how mine's so neat ;)

Scarf: Thrifted, Sweater: F+F, Skirt: ASOS (sale), Heels: Nine West (sale), Tights (brown and ribbed, but you can't tell): F+F, Glasses: eBay, False plait hairband: eBay similar, Tortoiseshell cuff: Accessorize (sale), Watch: Christmas gift, ASOS, Rings: New Look, ASOS.

Strawberry Sunday

I actually wore this outfit last week, but simply had to save it for posting today once the sundae/Sunday pun occured to me. Oh, the joys of creating blog post titles (to be honest I rather like the part of thinking them up, I know some people find it tedious)!

My strawberry sweater is the only thing I own with sequins (I think...). Many times I've thought about buying one of those beautiful sequin jackets, but I keep wondering how often I'll wear it, i.e. would I wear it to anywhere other than a party? Maybe I'll get one one day, then they'll be sooo last year. Oh well. I love big motifs on sweaters and although this is quite a "cute" one, I added the velvet blazer and maxi skirt to stop it getting into little-girl-cutesy territory... not a good look at my age.

Hope everyone's having/had a wonderful weekend... Stay safe/dry/warm/stationary

(So windy in the south of England! My hair looks like it's been through a hedge backwards!)

Jacket: Very, Sweater: Debenhams, Skirt: River Island, Boots: Bertie at ASOS (sale), Necklace: ASOS (sale), Watch: ASOS (Christmas present from Mr. Summers), Earrings: F+F, Purple/gold bracelet: Topshop, Watchstrap bracelet: ASOS, Rings: all ASOS, Nails: Nails Inc Black Taxi
